First Ever Identity Fraud Prevention Awards
Apparently this week sees the launch of the first ever Identity Fraud
Prevention Awards. The awards are in order to highlight and reward companies and businesses that are doing excellent work in combating identity fraud and those that have taken a proactive approach to reduce both their and their customers’ risk.
The Awards are being launched as part of this year’s National Identity Fraud Prevention campaign, a nationwide campaign aimed at providing information to individuals and businesses about the threat of identity fraud and educating them on the best methods of protecting themselves culminating in National Identity Fraud Prevention Week commencing 18 October.
The awards are supported by Fellowes, Equifax, National Fraud Authority, Experian, Metropolitan Police and City of London Police.
Identity fraud still costs the UK an estimated £1.2bn every year, according to a report by the Identity Fraud Steering Committee. While consumers are now more aware of the risks posed by Identity fraud, this is not yet the case for fraud perpetrated in the corporate sector.
Research from Fellowes indicates that more than a third (36%) of businesses in the UK don’t have an effective policy or procedure in place to prevent ID fraud. However, there are also many examples of businesses and companies who are leading the way in assisting in the prevention and protection against these threats. Not only are these companies maintaining the standard in helping to protect themselves, but are also an inspiration and education medium for others to come forward and do their part in the fight.
